The item, not the lump sum

Describe the installation, "eighteen points, board to replace, earthing", and every item takes its line with its quantity. A client who sees eighteen sockets priced does not argue with the total the way someone reading "electrical installation: lump sum" does.

The inspection that gets charged

The safety report required by the OIBT is a service, not a free formality. On its own line it stops being absorbed by the rest of the job, and the client understands they are paying for a legal obligation.

Changes made mid-job

A socket moved, a point added: it gets decided on site and always disappears between the job and the invoice. You add it from your phone, on the existing quote, before the ladder is packed away.
